Selection and Stars of Welgevonden’s Game Lodges
Lodges have featured in literature, folk tales, and in reality, throughout the world and for many centuries. Wherever lodges were found, they were primarily places that offer shelter from the elements, wild animals, or people bent on robbing weary travellers, in addition to being a source of refreshment, relaxation, and rest, in safety.
Traditionally, certain types of lodges were very basic with minimal amenities, namely woodcutters or logging lodges, hunting lodges in the midst of wildlife habitat, and hiking lodges, set along a lengthy hiking trail. Other lodge variations offered somewhat more than temporary, basic shelter and relative safety. Travellers’ overnight lodges provided a night’s respite, a meal, something to drink, and a bed for the night.
Gatekeepers and caretakers were provided with lodges from which to perform their respective duties. Much more sophisticated, and far better equipped mountain lodges, ski lodges, and game lodges were later additions.
Selection of Lodge Accommodations in Welgevonden
In South Africa, a number of game lodges are located in Welgevonden Game Reserve, a private game park in the Waterberg region of this country, only about three hours’ travel by road from Pretoria, and a tad longer from Johannesburg.
Welgevonden is an exclusive and extensive game reserve, occupying some 35 000 hectares of prime Limpopo Province bushveld and wilderness terrain. Consequently, each one of Welgevonden’s selection of lodges is privately located, completely separate, and distant from its neighbouring establishments.
Perfectly private and geared to provide our guests with luxury in the heart of Welgevonden’s wilderness, our five-star lodge establishment, Fifty Seven Waterberg, must be experienced. It is only through actual experience that one can fully appreciate the warm, friendly, and professional personal service and attention to guests’ comfort, which represents the essence of Fifty Seven Waterberg’s many additional luxuries.
Multiple Awards
At this stage, in mid-2018, Welgevonden’s Fifty Seven Waterberg is proud to have received five awards, one for each of our five stars, some might say. Lilizela declared us a Provincial Winner for Accommodation in their 2017 Tourism Awards, and we have received an Outstanding Service Award from GoHotels.com for the same period.
We have featured in National Geographic’s 2017 Traveller Africa Collection, have a Top five Accommodations in Welgevonden Game Reserve Certificate from Travelmyth, plus a 2018 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor, and a remarkable rating of 9.6 in Booking.com’s 2017 Guest Review Awards. On the international front, Fifty Seven Waterberg is the recipient of the prestigious 2018 Haute Grandeur Award.
