Welgevonden Reserve: A Place of Conservation, Comfort, and Charm
If you have seen MTN’s Internet of Things (IoT) advert, then you might recognise the Welgevonden Game Reserve. MTN, in partnership with Wageningen University, International Business Machines (IBM), and the Welgevonden Reserve has utilised IoT technology to create an innovative wildlife-protection solution. Prey animals, such as the eland, graze near the rhinos and when they sense a potential threat, their stress levels are activated. Thanks to specialised tracking collars placed on these prey animals, this behaviour can be documented and any potential threat to rhinos can be discovered.
This technology protects the rhinos without needing to collar them. If you are interested in conservation, you can chat to one of our knowledgeable rangers about this incredible technology. Welgevonden is at the forefront of rhino protection and is thus a must-see area for anyone who cares about the environment and the protection of endangered species.
Guests are also invited to partake in walking tours of the park, discover over 300 species of bird, delight in a safari experience, or explore the unique history of impeccably preserved rock art. We also encourage visitors to dabble in some stargazing, as the stars truly do shine brighter without the light pollution of the bustling city. There really is something for everyone at Welgevonden Game Reserve and guests can opt for a relaxing getaway or an adventure-filled escape. Contact us today and we will gladly chat to you about our packages here at Fifty Seven Waterberg.
