Luxury Wildlife Accommodation in Limpopo’s Magnificent Welgevonden Game Reserve
Part of the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve declared by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 2001, the Welgevonden Game Reserve extends for around 4 000 square kilometres. The reserve’s name is derived from a Dutch phrase that means “well found” and, given the area’s stunning natural beauty and abundant flora and fauna, it could hardly be more appropriate.
The drive from Johannesburg or Pretoria should normally take no more than two and a half hours or so and, as the areas also has a number of airstrips, the journey could take as little as 45 minutes. Whichever way you get here, you will find yourself in the heart of a wilderness that is home to more than 300 varieties of birds and over 50 species of mammals. As a bonus, the latter also includes Africa’s iconic Big Five. Even more of a bonus, perhaps, is the fact that the region is also home to some of the finest luxury wildlife accommodation to be found in South Africa’s most northerly province of Limpopo.
Quite apart from its natural beauty and its fascinating animal life, the region has a couple of additional attributes that are certain to be of particular importance to the tourist. To begin with, despite its northerly latitude and proximity to the tropic of Capricorn, the high altitude helps to keep temperatures a little milder and thus pleasantly comfortable when exploring one of the many bushveld trails on foot, or when viewing the local game from an off-road vehicle during the summer months. Secondly, and even more significantly, the Welgevonden Game Reserve is free of malaria, and so the hint of quinine in your G&T is just a taste to be savoured.
For those who are in search of some luxury wildlife accommodation, there are more than a dozen game lodges to choose from within the reserve and each of these is located within its own freehold portion. This means that each lodge remains discreet from its neighbours, thus ensuring that guests are, at all times, able to enjoy the privacy, peace and tranquillity that are so much a fundamental part of the bushveld experience.
With a total of just five guest suites that, between them, are designed to house a total of no more than ten guests, our facilities offered at Fifty Seven Waterberg certainly meet this important criterion. The rooms themselves are 5-star elegance and boast furnishings and décor that conform to the highest standards of the industry. Air conditioning, king sized-beds, comfortable armchairs, a study desk, tea and coffee station, and a private patio with stunning views are just some of the attractions of our luxury wildlife accommodation.
