Luxury Accommodation Puts a “Wow” into the Waterberg
Once upon a time, and yet not too terribly long ago, one had limited accommodation options when travelling in the Waterberg region of South Africa’s Limpopo province, formerly the Northern Transvaal. The towns of Nylstroom (now Modimolle) and Naboomspruit (Mookgophong) were mere villages, mainly serving the farming community of the surrounding areas.
Just Passing Through
The national route to the far north – Pietersburg (Polokwane), Tzaneen, Louis Trichardt and onwards through the border post of Beit Bridge, and the crossing point from South Africa into Zimbabwe – passed through these towns, where motorists would stop to refuel and stretch their legs. The Waterberg itself was seldom the destination of these long-distance travellers or holidaymakers, unless they intended visiting family who resided or farmed in the region.
These rural towns usually featured a country hotel that provided overnight accommodation for travellers in need of a night’s rest. Because there was relatively little demand for accommodation, there were relatively few establishments from which to choose, if indeed, any choice of accommodation was on offer.
Present-Day Prime Destination
Things have changed in the Waterberg. Today, this is a prime destination for lovers of the unique peace and tranquillity that only unspoiled African bushveld can offer. This is the Waterberg of the 21st century, home of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve.
Although this status is wonderful, it gets even better. You may be forgiven for thinking that we’re peeling an onion, layer by layer, but one finds still more within the wondrous Waterberg Biosphere Reserve – the Welgevonden Game Reserve.
Our 5-star, superbly appointed game lodge, Fifty Seven Waterberg, is located in the heart of Welgevonden’s 35 000 hectare wildlife Eden. Our lodge is so named because it is situated on the 57th portion of Welgevonden.
It’s where we look forward to meeting and hosting you, our most welcome guests. You deserve nothing less than sincere South African hospitality in the lap of all that exemplifies world-class luxury, with the addition of a distinctive African twist and Waterberg wonder.
Accommodation in Sensational Suites
Privacy, peace and tranquillity, exclusivity and outstanding personal service set us apart from most other Waterberg establishments, valid reasons why our guest suites number just five. Each spacious suite occupies at least 80 square metres, in consideration of your Waterberg experience and Africa’s wide open wilderness, where nothing is cramped or claustrophobic.
Each of the five luxurious suites is uniquely furnished and characteristically named, enabling guests to identify with their rooms on a more individual level that simultaneously refers to some of the Waterberg’s antelope species, the Springbok (our special honeymoon suite), Rooihartbees, Gemsbok, Zebra (also a honeymoon suite), and Nguni – an indigenous name that refers to both a sector of the African population and a hardy breed of cattle.
Our room rates are designed to provide our visitors with remarkably affordable 5-star luxury, including all gourmet meals, plus morning and evening game drives, overseen by a knowledgeable ranger who knows just where the best viewing opportunities are to be had, on the day.
Come and enjoy all our facilities, whether from your own private patio overlooking the bush, our gracious lounging areas in the main lodge, or the refreshing blue infinity pool and surrounding deck – a far cry from the former rudimentary accommodation standards of yesteryear’s Waterberg dorpies (villages).
