5 Star Game Lodge and Resort

What Makes a 5-Star Game Lodge Experience?

Given the continued weakness of our currency, fewer South Africans are able to enjoy overseas vacations than was the case in the past. Fortunately, the ailing rand has also made our country more attractive to international travellers, who are assured of exceptional value in exchange for their much-needed dollars and pounds.

Both local and overseas holidaymakers have always been lured to the wilderness in a quest to commune with nature and its vast diversity of wildlife in particular. Among those who may be happy to pursue their sightseeing from a campsite, however, are a growing number of tourists who would prefer something closer to a 5-star game lodge experience. Although this is a status to which many wilderness venues may lay claim, only a few of these are able to meet the standards expected of such a facility, especially by those from overseas who have little experience of the African bush.

The Kruger National Park has achieved international fame and is one of the favourite destinations for locals and visitors alike. Adjacent to it, and accommodating the eastern area of the Kruger, the province of Limpopo boasts numerous smaller reserves and wildlife parks that are home, not just to a host of fascinating flora and fauna, but also to abundant evidence of the earliest efforts of the human race. One of the best areas of this northernmost of South Africa’s provinces in which to experience both, is the Welgevonden Game Reserve. Overlooked by the Waterberg Mountains, in its heart lies a game lodge that delivers all of that elusive 5-star quality and not merely the promise of exceptional accommodation.

For residents or visitors to Gauteng, the drive from Pretoria or Johannesburg to the reserve should take no more than three hours, which makes it an ideal destination for a weekend getaway. Furthermore, if you should choose to book your stay with us, the peace and privacy of a venue surrounded by beauty and consisting of just 5 luxury guest suites, could also set just the right tone for a short honeymoon stay or romantic interlude. What is it, then, that serves to set our particular game lodge apart from others in the region and that defines it as a 5-star destination?

The word “space”, perhaps, best describes the biggest difference between our and other venues. Not the 35 000 hectares of space that make up the reserve in which it is set, but the exceptional spaciousness of its luxuriously furnished and well-appointed suites. With a minimum of 80 square metres of elegantly decorated space in which to relax in a comfortable armchair, and a private patio with magnificent wilderness views, it is easy to forget that the objective of one’s visit is to view the Big Five. Nevertheless, a day spent at rest, rather than exploring the bush, is likely to prove just as enjoyable when your greatest need is to unwind, and offers an opportunity to enjoy a cocktail or two from the comfort of a lounger beside the pristine pool.

When the day is done, whether spent viewing wildlife with one of the lodge’s experienced local guides or just relaxing, a starlit gourmet meal and the comfort of a king-sized bed complete this 5-star game lodge experience.
